LUIGI Mangione has been accused of being the shooter who killed the UnitedHealth CEO in New York on December 4, 2024.
Some social media users have claimed that Mr Mangione detailed his own experience with chronic pain on his alleged Reddit account, and others have even claimed to have found his manifesto.
On December 4, 2024, the CEO of UnitedHealth Brian Thompson was shot to death in Manhattan.
He was walking into a hotel where the health insurance company was holding an investor’s meeting when he was shot in the back.
Thompson had launched the company in 2004 and reportedly made $10.8 million last year.
A five-day manhunt was launched to find his killer, which led the police to arrest the Ivy League graduate Luigi Mangione.
Mr Mangione was 26 years old at the time of his arrest and was allegedly found with material that was critical of the healthcare industry.
One of Mr Mangione’s classmates said that his former friend “didn’t have any enemies” and that he had been “valedictorian for a reason”.
After graduating from college, Mr Mangione worked as a data engineer and spent time living in a surfing community in Hawaii.
Sarah Nehemiah told CBS that he had left the community after his back injury worsened from surfing and hiking.
On his alleged Mister_Cactus Reddit account, Mr Mangione supposedly offered advice to people also suffering from chronic back problems.
In one Mister_Cactus post, he is said to have opened up about his fear of being “destined to chronic pain and a desk job” for the rest of his life.
He then includes several links to successful spinal surgery stories, which he hoped would “provide reassurance that athletic life is totally normal” after surgery.
The Mister_Cactus poster even details his experience of traveling around Asia.
He talks candidly about a conversation with some of his friends, where they described their dream homes.
Where his friends wanted to live in “intricate mansions, complete with elaborate swimming pools”, the Redditor says that he sketched a “small square house”.
The poster, alleged to be Luigi, then says that he has “never been very materialistic” and is instead interested in “efficiency”.
This, according to him, is why he wanted to “become an engineer”.
When Mr Mangione was arrested, he was found with a spiral notebook containing a to-do list.
An alleged manifesto has been circulating online since the arrest.
In the manifesto, it is claimed that Mr Mangione wrote that he wasn’t working with anyone.
He continues to say that, although he apologizes for any “strife” caused, that the “parasites simply had it coming”.
Mr Mangione went on to criticize the American healthcare system, saying that it is the most “expensive healthcare system in the world” but 42nd in the world for life expectancy.
He concludes by saying that he will be the “first to face” the problem with “such brutal honesty”.
In the manifesto, Mr Mangione also says that United is the “largest company in the US by market cap”.
