“This is a seminal moment in franchise history. Juan Soto is a generational talent. He is not only bringing staggering historical statistics with him but also a championship pedigree,” Steve and Alex Cohen said. “Our Amazin’ fan base is very excited to welcome Juan to Queens. Congratulations, Juan.”
Soto’s contract includes a $500,000 bonus for winning the NL MVP and a $1 million bonus for any additional MVPs he wins. He’ll receive $350,000 for a second-place MVP finish and $150,000 for finishing third through fifth. If he wins World Series MVP, he will get a $350,000 bonus and $150,000 for winning NLCS MVP and a Silver Slugger. Soto will get an additional $100,000 for each All-Star selection, All-MLB Team selection, and Hank Aaron Award.
The historic 15-year, $765 million deal includes a $75 million signing bonus. According to Jon Heyman of the NY Post, Soto will earn $46,875,000 in 2025 and 2026, $42,500,000 in 2026, $46,875,000 in 2028 and 2029, and $46 million per year from 2030 to 2038. The club option in 2030 can increase the base rate from 2030-2038 by four million per year. If the Mets decline his option, Soto can opt out after 2029.
“Today’s signing further solidifies our organizational commitment to consistent championship competitiveness,” David Stearns said. “Not only does Juan provide historic levels of on-field production, but his joy, intensity, and passion for the game mirror our budding culture. We are thrilled to add him to our team and look forward to watching his excellence for years to come.”
The Mets will introduce Soto in a press conference at Citi Field on Thursday at 3:00 PM.
