‘Bumrah’s captaincy…was far better…’: Former Australian star makes Big remarks on Indian skipper after 10-wicket loss in Adelaide
Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich believes that Jasprit Bumrah used his bowlers much better during the Test in Perth, compared to how Rohit Sharma used his bowlers in Adelaide.
As Rohit was not present for the Test in Perth, India won by 295 runs under Bumrah’s captaincy. India however lost the second Test by 10 wickets, which allowed Australia to balance the series.
When comparing the captaincy style of Rohit and Bumrah, Simon stated that the strategic rotation in bowlers was done better by Bumrah, as compared to Rohit.
“When you compare the two results, obviously, in Perth, Rohit Sharma missed out. And I thought Bumrah’s captaincy, and particularly, the use of his bowlers in the length that they bowled, was far superior to what we saw in Adelaide. In Perth late on Day 1 when Australia were 7/67, India attacked the stumps and bowled much fuller and straighter lengths,” Katich said.
Simon also said about how Rohit could be a little more active with selecting his pacers, and provide them with enough feedback from the stumps.
“Whereas, when you look at the pitch map for Adelaide, on the night of Day 1, they were a lot shorter and wider, and around the 7-8 meter mark. So they missed a trick. Rohit Sharma was at first slip; he saw it all unfold. He needs to be a bit more proactive with his quicks when that’s happening. Because Australia got out of jail in that session only being one down and as a result, went on to win the Test,” he added.
The 10-wicket defeat in the Adelaide Test has had a massive impact in the chances of India qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) finals. The Rohit Sharma-led side must make sure that they win rest of the three matches in the series if they wish to secure their spot in the WTC Finals.
