Job fair and resources in Emporia following Tyson closure
EMPORIA (KSNT) - The state of Kansas will be holding a job fair in Emporia for employees of Tyson and the Holiday Resort retirement home who've lost their jobs.
The job fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2025 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. The KANSASWORKS job fair will be in the Anderson Building and is specifically for employees from Tyson and Holiday Resort.
United Way of the Flint Hills will also be providing resources to those impacted. They will be holding a resource fair at the same location to cover a range of needs such as rent and utility assistance, healthcare, food assistance, child care, benefits and more.
The Kansas Department of Commerce will also be providing assistance through its Rapid Response program. The program is designed to help workers facing sudden job loss. The program offers immediate career counseling, job search assistance, skills training and other relevant resources.
"Rapid Response teams collaborate with employers and employee representatives to optimize resources in an effort to reduce the disruptions caused by job loss," Kansas Commerce Marketing & Communications Director Patrick Lowry said.
Rapid Response meetings will be held from 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. on Dec. 18 and 19 at the Clint Boyer Community Building on the Lyon County Fairgrounds.
