One unnamed Tottenham player says the squad lacks the necessary depth to compete at the top, but everyone is fully behind Ange Postecoglou.
The pressure is now mounting on Postecoglou after Tottenham’s latest defeat to Chelsea saw them drop down to the bottom half of the table.
The media continues to question the Australian’s approach, with Jamie Carragher becoming the latest big-name pundit to suggest that the Spurs boss will not last long at N17 if he does not adapt his tactics.
The 59-year-old will be aware that he needs to turn things around quickly if he is to fulfil his ambitions of making his project a successful, long-term one.
According to BBC Sport, the Tottenham boss is confident that he is not in any immediate danger of being sacked and is maintaining a ‘business-as-usual’ approach at Hotspur Way.
It is explained that Postecoglou has built a good relationship with Daniel Levy and is aligned with Spurs’ recruitment department in their strategy of signing young players who are likely to improve in the future.
The outlet reveals that they spoke to one unnamed Tottenham player, who told them the squad simply lacks depth at the moment and that the club need further investment to compete at the top end of the table.
The publication adds that the players have given their full support to the 59-year-old in their off-the-record conversations with them.
Daniel Levy only made the decision to sack Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho when their relationships with the squad had broken down completely and their positions became untenable.
The same was arguably the case with Mauricio Pochettino, with the Argentine’s relationship with the players having soured after the Champions League final.
That is evidently not the case with Postecoglou, with the players still fully behind the Australian. At this moment, a decision to sack him will likely be badly received by the squad, which is why it is unlikely to be made.
