President-elect Donald Trump has tapped election denier and two-time failed Republican candidate Kari Lake to lead Voice of America in his new administration.
Trump made the selection Wednesday night, ending speculation that Lake, a former TV news anchor turned MAGA favorite, would be selected as the incoming president’s ambassador to Mexico. She will instead serve as director of the government-funded media agency Voice of America, which produces overseas broadcasts that have traditionally remained nonpartisan.
But Trump used the announcement to criticize the media, a familiar occurrence for the former reality TV star who has repeatedly threatened to jail journalists and control national news outlets he views as unfavorable to him.

“I am pleased to announce that Kari Lake will serve as our next Director of the Voice of America,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media.”
Lake lost her bids for governor and U.S. Senate in the past four years. She has also emerged as a staunch election denier of not only her races but also helped promote Trump's ongoing conspiracy theory that he won the 2020 election.
“Kari was a beloved News Anchor in Arizona, which supported me by record margins, for over 20 years,” Trump added. “Congratulations Kari!”
