India’s third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) is going to take place in Brisbane. The last time India played in the venue, was when the visitors won the BGT 2-1 with a historic win on the last day of the Test match.
Three days before the match begins, on December 11, Brisbane pitch curator David Sandurski told the media that the characteristics of the wickets in Gabba change from the beginning to the end of the season.
“Different times of year definitely makes it different, it can be a slightly different pitch. Pitches later in the season might have a bit more wear and tear while ones early in the season usually are a bit fresher and might have a bit more in them,” the curator said.
David said that they were not doing anything extra to make the wickets to bowl quick. The opening Tests of both the series have taken place on wickets that bounce well, especially the Adelaide Test when Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant even struggled to play on the spongy surface.
“Generally speaking we still prepare the pitch the exact same way every time to try and get the same good carry, pace and bounce that the Gabba is known for. We are just trying to make a traditional Gabba wicket like we do each year,” the curator added.
The third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy is going to be held in Brisbane. After Brisbane, India will play two more Test matches- one in Sydney and the last match in Melbourne.
