The Annual Junior Laying Up and Frostbite Series Prizegiving was held in the Clubhouse last Sunday 8th December. It is a great occasion every year for our junior members to get together and celebrate all of our very talented young sailors across all of our Dinghy Classes. The Frank Thompson Memorial Trophy for The Junior Volunteer of the Year was also awarded and of course the much coveted Pyewacket Trophy which is awarded on performance.
With the room at full capacity and with a lot of trophies to be handed out proceedings got quickly underway with the Frostbite Prizes up first. 1st in ILCA 4 was Craig O’Neill followed very closely by his younger brother in 2nd place. In ILCA 6 1st place went to Sophie Crosbie with Philip Doherty in 2nd place. In the Mixed Dinghy Fleet we had Oisin Pierce and Fionn Daly in their 29er FX and in 2nd place we had Isha Duggan and Tommy Hiras from the 420 class. And finally in the ILCA 7 fleet, 1st place went to Johnathan O’Shaughnessy and 2nd Place to Sean O’Herlihy.
Each Class Captain then gave a very informative review of the season past and plans for 2025. The Most Improved Sailor and Sailor of the Year was then awarded in each class, they are as follows :-

Next up was the Frank Thompson Memorial Trophy which is awarded to recognise the outstanding volunteer efforts by a Family to RCYC Dinghy Sailing. This award went to Dana Swanton and Ronan Duggan much to the delight of the room. Dana and Ronan are always first up to volunteer to help out be it on the water with safety or ashore as beachmaster and helping with results. Congratulations to you both, very well deserved.
The final award of the night was the much coveted Pyewacket Trophy. The list of Nominees was as follows :-
