The Israeli military has announced that over the past 48 hours, it has carried out at least 480 strikes on strategic military targets in Syria.
According to a statement from the Israeli military, these attacks have targeted several cities in Syria, including the capital, Damascus.
The statement further explained that the goal of these strikes was to prevent weapons in Syria from falling into the hands of terrorist groups.
The Israeli army indicated that its attacks hit 15 naval ships, anti-aircraft batteries, and weapon production sites across Syria.
Additionally, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Israel also bombed airports, storage depots, aircraft squadrons, radar stations, military signal posts, weapons and ammunition warehouses, research centers, and air defense systems.
Israel’s continued advance into Syrian territory, particularly its capture of the Golan Heights, has sparked strong reactions from countries like Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, who have condemned Israel’s actions as a “blatant violation of international law.”
It is important to note that the 24-year regime of Bashar al-Assad collapsed on Sunday, December 8, following a rebellion by opposition forces. This collapse has further complicated the ongoing conflict in Syria, drawing regional powers into the fray.
While Israel’s military actions are framed as strategic efforts to safeguard its borders and prevent terrorist threats, the broader geopolitical implications are undeniable.
The international community remains deeply divided over how to address Israel’s continued presence in Syria, particularly in the Golan Heights, which is considered disputed territory by many nations.
