UPDATE (5:51 p.m. ET): Max Fried agreed to terms on an eight-year, $218 million contract with the New York Yankees, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Original story: Max Fried reportedly received at least one contract offer, and it’s a long one.
Whether it’s from the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees or some other team, however, was not immediately reported.
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi on Tuesday evening reported the left-hander has at least one seven-year contract proposal in hand.
Morosi reported Fried is expected to come to a decision this week while The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported Fried is expected to choose by Thursday. MLB Winter Meetings wrap up in Dallas on Thursday.
Multiple reporters believe Fried will choose between the Red Sox and Yankees with the potential for a bidding war between the rivals. Other teams like the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays have been included in reports on the Fried sweepstakes, as well.
