ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania man is accused of driving from Pennsylvania to Albany County, New York to engage in child sex abuse. The U.S. Attorney's Office said David Gruber, 39, was charged with traveling across state lines to the Capital Region with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.
Gruber reportedly began communicating with someone in November to discuss and plan his sexual abuse of a person he believed to be a nine-year-old child. He allegedly planned to drive across state lines to Albany County and pay $300 in order to have illicit sexual conduct with the child.
On Dec. 5, Gruber was arrested in Albany, at a prearranged location. He reportedly had $460 in cash on him at the time of his arrest.
On Dec. 6, he was ordered to be detained by United States Magistrate Judge Daniel Stewart. If found guilty, Gruber faces a maximum term of 30 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a probation term of 5 years to life. Gruber also faces mandatory registration as a sex offender.
