'Wicked' Director Jon M. Chu Reveals What Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo Are Like On Set, Shares Their Acts of Kindness (Exclusive Clip)

Wicked director Jon M. Chu is speaking out about what Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are like behind-the-scenes, including some really fun and sweet tidbits about their personalities!

Cynthia and Ariana portrayed Elphaba and Glinda, the leading roles in the smash-hit movie musical. They both give stellar performances, and Jon‘s amazing directing is also being praised!

Jon was a guest the most recent episode of “The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul” podcast, and we have an exclusive video clip from his episode.

Robert asked Jon about Ariana and Cynthia‘s acts of kindness on set.

Jon shared, “Cynthia, she was like, ‘Jon, you need to wear moisturizer,’ and I’ve been told that my whole life, but I don’t like stuff on my skin. And she kept giving me moisturizer. So now I moisturize my skin, and it feels great, and I love it. So she’s a caretaker. I mean, Cynthia will send me flowers at home for no reason. And so she’s very much… gifting is her love language, for sure.”"

He continued, “And Ari would check in on me, like when everyone’s worried about things, and I’m worried about things, she would always check in on me. She’s like, ‘Hey, are you okay? Hey, let’s just sit here and just like think, or let’s just sit in silence, or hey, do you want to talk about anything?’ She was always checking in on me. She read my tarot cards. She would make us laugh. She would make the whole crew laugh.”

Jon added, “She was always worried that the crew was having a good time. And I think she maybe needed that for her space of Glinda, but she was very much Glinda the Good throughout. There was never like, ‘Let me stay in my mode and get out of my way.’ There was none of that. It was… she would pop around and hang out even days she wasn’t shooting. She would hang out. And everybody appreciated that, because it’s Ariana Grande who’s like, hanging out. I don’t know if she’s conscious of what that means to people, but it means a lot.”
