The wee Hibees got back to winning ways with an impressive 3-0 victory over Motherwell, despite challenging conditions at HTC.
Darren McGregor’s side battled the wind and rain to overcome Motherwell in the CAS Elite Youth league – winning by three goals to nil at HTC on Friday night.
The Hibees started on the front foot, with Dean Cleland forcing an early save from Jack McConnell after being played through one-on-one. Josh McDonald was next to sting the palms of the ‘Well goalkeeper after his free-kick from the edge of the area was saved.
The deadlock was soon broken – on the 14-minute mark – courtesy of Josh Landers. The Hibs striker showed his strength and power in the six-yard box, rising above several Motherwell defenders to nod home from McDonald’s corner.
We continued to create chance in an action-packed first half, with Logan Jimenez eventually doubling our lead after half an hour. Again, the goal came from a set-piece with the left-back timing his run to perfection at the back post to get on the end of Jamie McMurdo’s delivery and head home.
Dean Cleland added a third and all but wrapped up the three points at the end of the first half. Josh Landers was heavily involved again, striding towards goal from the halfway line before getting his shot away. Jack McConnell made the initial save but Dean Cleland followed in and slammed in the rebound.
We had several more chances in the second half to add to our tally, striking the woodwork on occasion with McConnell making a number of saves to deny the Hibees.
In the end, it finished 3-0 with Darren McGregor’s side getting back to winning ways in fine style. Up next, the wee Hibees travel to Rangers on Friday 13 December.
