Sunday evening brought a new era in Mets baseball when the team agreed to a 15-year, $765 million deal with generational outfielder Juan Soto. He procured the richest contract in professional sports history, eclipsing Shohei Ohtani‘s 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers signed in 2023.
The baseball and sports world was sent into a frenzy when the news dropped. Below are a few player reactions to Soto’s record-breaking deal…
The man of the hour, Soto, appeared in his brother, Elian Soto‘s Instagram story video, doused in a celebratory champagne shower.

Mets outfielder and fellow Team Dominican Republic player Starling Marte welcomed Soto to the Mets on Instagram. “Welcome to the family.”
Former Mets’ catcher Paul Lo Duca noted on X, “I don’t care what they paid. To take him away from the Yankees is a giant statement going forward and he’s the best all-around hitter in baseball.”
Todd Frazier, former Met and Yankee congratulated Soto on X, commenting, “I know Steve Cohen is not done yet either. Now free agency has officially begun…”
Tyler Zuber, pitcher in the Mets organization, expressed a sigh of relief with the signing…
Glad I don’t have to face him again for now.. Didn’t think this was gonna land https://t.co/C3UEOVFHiN
