A packed week of boxing features Murodjon Akhmadaliev, Jaime Mungia, and Alexis Rocha headlining conventional shows, plus the latest Redneck Brawl!
DAZN, 3:00 am ET, Conor Wallace vs Asemahle Wellem. A light-heavyweight showdown from Queensland, Australia. Wallace is back in action just over 3 months after a 12 round split decision win, while Wellem fights for the first time outside of Africa. Justus Huni appears in support.
ProBox, 7:30 pm ET, Jonhatan Cardoso vs Eduardo Ramirez. Cardoso fights on ProBox for the fourth time, while Ramirez returns to the ring for the first time since a loss to Mark Magsayo on the Tank Davis vs Frank Martin undercard. Katsuma Akitsugi returns in support after a fantastic performance back in July. BLH will have live updates.
DAZN, 1:00 pm ET, Mourad Aliev vs Davide Brito. This one is a Universum Boxing show out of Germany, but has Riyadh Season branding all over the promo materials. Billy Dib fights for the first time in 33 months against TBA as part of the undercard.
DAZN, 6:00 pm ET, Ardreal Holmes vs Edwine Humaine. A Salita Promotions show out of Michigan. Joey Spencer features in support.
ESPN+, 3:00 pm ET, Cristobal Lorente vs Francesco Grandelli. An Italian card that airs on DAZN outside of the USA. If you’re like me, and sick of belt dilution by the EBU? This will finally resolve the split between Lorente’s full European featherweight title and Grandelli’s silver version. Fabio Turchi fights a 5-18 opponent on the undercard.
DAZN, 7:00 pm ET, Most Valuable Promotions. The latest Jake Paul prospects show out of Orlando. Main event is Antonio Vargas vs Winston Guerrero. If you were heartbroken that the guy from Euphoria got scrubbed from the last one? Well, he’s on the BoxRec listing this time around. Also, Gurgen “Big Gug” Hovhannisyan, the Armenian man-mountain who’ll likely remain a fun watch until the matchmaking gets too difficult.
DAZN, 7:00 pm ET, Red Owl Boxing. Not currently on the DAZN schedule, but these tend to hit a little late sometimes. They’re actively promoting it as yet another televised offering. Marquis Taylor vs Ivan Pandzic is the main event.
UFC Fight Pass, 8:00 pm ET, Hollywood Fight Nights. Sadriddin Akhmedov vs Raphael Igbokwe is your main event.
DAZN, 12:00 pm ET, Dream Boxing. Big week for televised boxing in Germany! Daniel Dietz faces Granit Shala with lesser IBF and IBO heavyweight titles on the line. Also, Sarah Bormann defends her WBO 105 lbs. belt against Jennifer Meza.
Peacock, 2:00 pm ET, Natasha Jonas vs Ivana Habazin. A Boxxer show out of Liverpool, airing on Sky Sports in the UK. The main event is a welterweight unification, while Lauren Price brings WBA (and IBO!) hardware to the chief support.
DAZN, 2:00 pm ET, Murodjon Akhmadaliev vs Ricardo Espinoza Franco. Matchroom’s annual Monte Carlo show, with the main event for an interim WBA belt. This is always an odd show, because the venue is tiny and generally full of the obscenely wealthy and largely disinterested, but the fights have been quality in the past. Undercard includes Cheavon Clarke fighting for a vacant European title, Maxi Hughes vs Gary Cully, Beatriz Ferreira defending her IBF lightweight belt, and the Matchroom debut of Olympic sensation Teremoana Junior. BLH will have live updates.
PPV, 8:00 pm ET, Redneck Brawl 8: Hillbillies Get Wild! I do a lot of tongue in cheek stuff with these weekly schedule overviews, but this is not a joke: Redneck Brawl has become my favorite event and most anticipated live coverage, and second place isn’t close. Last time, I wrote almost 5,000 words of fighter bios and preview capsules in the midst of extensive Olympics coverage, and I regret nothing. If you haven’t seen a Redneck Brawl before? Check out the recap of Redneck Brawl 7 to get a taste. We get more and more people joining us live with each edition. So far, nobody has expressed anything but delight. $23 American if you want to watch along as the show returns to Cincinnati, where the 5th edition saw multiple brawls in the audience and a fighter wearing an ankle bracelet, appearing with special permission from his probation officer. It’s an absolute blast, and I cannot wait for Saturday. BLH will have live updates.
DAZN, 8:00 pm ET, Alexis Rocha vs Raul Curiel. Interesting in-house welterweight matchup among the Golden Boy stable. Rocha has losses to Rashidi Ellis and Giovani Santillan, while Curiel is undefeated but has never faced similar opposition. Marlen Esparza, Charles Conwell, and Victor Morales appear on the undercard. BLH will have live updates.
ESPN+, 8:00 pm ET, Jaime Munguia vs Bruno Surace. A bit of a light touch for Munguia as he presumably puts on a fireworks show for the Tijuana crowd. But, it’s his fourth time in action this year, so good on the lad for a hometown holiday showcase. BLH will have live team coverage
***ALSO*** There will be at least 1-4 more shows on US television and streaming this week than what were fully confirmed when this post went live. DAZN will have a Saturday (Dec. 14) show from The Bahamas, but the event isn’t listed on their site yet and I don’t know the start time. There’s a MarvNation show, also on Saturday, featuring Fernando Vargas and Mark Magsayo, and a UBP show on Thursday (Dec. 12), an offering that used to be a DAZN regular feature. Either or both of those may have a streaming or online PPV option. There’s also a show from York Hall on Friday (Dec. 13) that shows DAZN on BoxRec, but doesn’t appear on the DAZN schedule in the USA yet.
