The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam is known as one of the most challenging competitive exams, not just in India but globally. Aspirants aiming to become IAS officers must clear three rounds: the UPSC Prelims, UPSC Mains, and the UPSC Interview. Among the most well-known and inspiring IAS officers today are Tina Dabi and her sister, Ria Dabi. Both are admired for their professional achievements as well as their personal lives. Tina Dabi is married to IAS officer Pradeep Gawande, while Ria Dabi is married to IPS officer Manish Kumar. Their success stories continue to inspire many aspiring civil servants.
Ria Dabi, an IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, got married to Manish Kumar, an IPS officer from the Maharashtra cadre, two months ago. However, the news became public when the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notice announcing the transfer of Manish Kumar’s cadre from Maharashtra to Rajasthan. The notice stated that the reason for the transfer was his marriage to IAS officer Ria Dabi, who is posted in Rajasthan.
IAS Ria Dabi and IPS Manish Kumar, both from the UPSC 2021 batch, initially started as friends. According to media reports, they met at the LBSNAA Academy in Mussoorie. The couple got married in April of this year through a court marriage, with the approval of their families. Following their marriage, Manish applied for a cadre change, which was approved by the Union Home Ministry, with a notice issued on June 16.
Ria Dabi, the younger sister of IAS officer Tina Dabi, secured the 15th rank in the UPSC Civil Services 2020 exam. Tina Dabi, who topped the UPSC Civil Services 2015 exam (result announced in 2016), became a celebrated figure for being the first Dalit to achieve this feat. Both sisters are alumni of Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University, and are currently posted in Rajasthan. While Tina serves as the Collector of Jaisalmer district, Ria has been posted in Alwar.
Manish Kumar, a resident of Delhi, pursued the civil services after completing his Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) degree. He secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 581 in the 2020 UPSC examination. Following his marriage to Ria, Manish Kumar applied for a cadre change, requesting a transfer from Maharashtra to Rajasthan. The Union Home Ministry approved the request, and a notice was issued on June 16, allowing Manish to be posted in Rajasthan, aligning his posting with Ria’s.
Currently, Ria works as a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Girwa, Rajasthan and Manish serves as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Mavli, Rajasthan.
