The Boston Red Sox appear poised to make an impact move this week at the Winter Meetings.
Boston’s top priority, despite the current standing in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, is absolutely a frontline starting pitcher. If the Red Sox would rather trade for one or even add one after a big free agent signing, Chicago White Sox lefty Garrett Crochet appears to be the best bet.
As the Winter Meetings commence in Dallas, MassLive’s Chris Cotillo added insight into where Boston stands in a potential pursuit for the southpaw.
“Continue hearing Red Sox are just on the periphery of Garrett Crochet talks and are not aggressors at all, at least to this point,” Cotillo posted to X. “Cincinnati seen as a real threat to land Crochet. Yankees believed to be in, too.”
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi also reported on “MLB Tonight” that while the Red Sox may not be frontrunners at this particular moment, he believes they are just “one player away” in negotiations.
The meetings officially kick off Monday where the Red Sox could make their first move to reestablish their aggressiveness in player acquisition.
