SANTA CLARA, Calif. — 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has been rumored as a candidate for the Bears' opening at head coach, and as far-fetched as it sounded from the start, he made it sound even crazier Sunday.
“I don’t want to be any place in the world more than here," Shanahan said after beating the Bears 38-13. "You guys are gonna have to kick me out of here. There’s no way I’m making that decision.”
The Shanahan hypothetical would involve a rare trade of a head coach, but that's not going to happen if the coach himself is not on board with the new job.
The Shanahan-Bears scenario originated with NBC’s Mike Florio last week.
“I feel like [Shanahan] is on the Andy Reid path where he is never going to reach his full potential unless he goes to a new team,” Florio said on 670 The Score. “And his dad’s from Illinois. There’s kind of an appeal to that.
“What would you give up to get Kyle Shanahan? You should at least have that conversation, because the 49ers almost traded Jim Harbaugh to the Browns 10 years ago. Harbaugh said no or else they would have done it. Who knows? If [CEO] Jed York is thinking about making a change, this might be a great opportunity.”
Shanahan,is 70-58 with four playoff appearances with the 49ers.
