A person who tried to rob a worker Saturday afternoon in New City was fatally shot when the two struggled over the robber's gun.
The robber, identified by police as a male, walked up to a 43-year-old man working outside about 2:50 p.m. in the 1500 block of West Garfield Boulevard. He pulled out a handgun and demanded the man’s property, Chicago police said.
The two fought over the gun. The gun went off in the struggle, and the robber was struck in the torso, police said. He was taken in critical condition to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died.
Area 1 detectives are investigating.
