The Boston Bruins trailed the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1 heading into the final 20 minutes of regulation on Saturday at TD Garden.
Goals by Trent Frederic and Brad Marchand tied the game for Boston to force overtime for the second time in three games. Pavel Zacha scored the game-winner midway through the extra frame to extend the Bruins’ winning streak to four games.
Right before the Zacha goal, Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman made an unbelievable save on Flyers’ Joel Farabee to prevent Philadelphia from securing the two points.
Bruins center Elias Lindholm had the puck just inside the blue line when he blew a tire and lost possession. Farabee collected the loose puck and skated up ice as Charlie McAvoy tried to chase him down. The Flyers forward skated to the middle of the ice and snapped a wrist shot from inside the hash marks between the two faceoff circles. Swayman was square to the shot and made the blocker save.
“I just wanted to do my job and get a stop for the guys, and get a great comeback in the third,” Swayman told reporters, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “It was just an excellent team win.”
Swayman stopped 23-of-26 Flyers shots for his ninth win of the season. Just seven seconds after the stop, Zacha called game for the Bruins.
The Bruins will take their best winning streak of the season on the road for their next five games. Boston will take on the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night. Puck drop from Canada Life Centre is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, and you can watch the game on NESN following an hour of pre-game coverage.
