Ange Postecoglou is already dealing with a lot of injury issues, and he might soon have a new headache as one of his key players is dangerously close to a suspension.
While players serve a three-match suspension for a straight red and a one-game ban for two yellows in a game, accumulating a series of yellow cards over several matches can also result in a one-match ban.
According to the Premier League‘s rules, players who pick up five yellow cards in the first half of the season will be suspended for one league game, which could be a problem for Tottenham.
Three Spurs players are now walking the suspension tightrope and could soon find themselves being forced to sit out one game.
The Premier League website reveals that Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Micky van de Ven are now sitting on four yellow cards each.
That means that if any of those three Tottenham stars pick up a yellow card within the next five league games, they will be unavailable for one game.
While this is not expected to be an issue with Bentancur since he is serving a seven-match suspension at the moment, Bissouma’s situation will be a major worry for Postecoglou.
If Bissouma picks up a yellow card over the coming weeks, Postecoglou will face a big dilemma as he is already without Bentancur.
The Tottenham head coach has the option of playing both James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski as number eights in front of Pape Sarr, but that will leave the side exposed defensively.
That other option would be to give Archie Gray an opportunity as a number six, which is the role where he made a name for himself at Leeds United.
