A dedicated, dependable and true St Catherine’s man, who was “small in stature but a giant of a man”.
That’s how former St Catherine’s president and cricket coach MacDonald Fingall described the late Barbados Under-19 and senior team cricket captain Kenroy Williams, who was also called “an amazing person” by his national teammate Kevin Stoute.
Fingall’s remarks were mentioned in a tribute delivered by treasurer of the St Catherine’s Club, Sharon Griffith during the funeral service for Williams on Wednesday afternoon at an overflowing St Martin’s Anglican Church where hundreds of mourners assembled to say goodbye to one of Barbados’ most cheerful and congenial cricketers.
An elegant, right-handed batsman and off-spinner, Williams, 40, who was an outstanding all-round cricketer for the Bayfield, St Philip-basedSt Catherine’s team, died last month after a battle with breast cancer. He also represented the West Indies “B” team and the Jamaica Scorpions in the West Indies Four-Day Championship.
