Saturday Night Live‘s longstanding cast member Mikey Day has much more to look forward to than just Paul Mescal hosting this week’s episode of SNL. And yes, I did say “just” as if the highly sought after Emmy nominee is a measly addition to the 50th season of SNL. But given Day’s insights into the potential guest on this week’s episode, the Gladiator II star does look a bit like chopped liver.
Kidding! Kidding!! But … if Day’s revelations are true, we know exactly who we’re tuning in to see.
When speaking with SheKnows at the American Museum of Natural History Annual Gala, Day says there’s a chance his 12-year-old son Abbott will make an appearance. [Cue confetti]
“We’re talking about getting him into a pre-tape but I don’t know if that’ll happen this week but hopefully soon,” Day says. “There’s a bunch of paperwork you gotta do for when children appear so we’ll see.”
And that checks out. Child labor laws and all that jazz. And so, maybe we’ll have to be a little more patient, but an Abbott fan can dream that this all gets sorted before Saturday — right?
The “delightful,” soccer-loving tween was featured in an iconic sketch in 2020. Abbott — who Day shares with partner Paula Christensen — played a hilarious kid named Brandon who has a YouTube channel and is making a video where he pranks his “corny a** dad” played by Day. Brandon put thumbtacks on the toilet, changed all his dad’s contact names to “Gigi Hadid,” switched his dad’s Zoom background to a photo of his boss’ bikini-clad teen daughter, and more.
Day did not reveal if “Brandon” will make a repeat appearance or if Abbott is taking on a new persona, but we’re ready for whatever the funny kid has in store.
Last year, at the 2023 Museum Gala, Day told SheKnows that he and Christensen were becoming the “uncool” and “annoying” parents.
“And I remember being annoyed by my parents, and I’m like, ‘Oh, we’re that now. We’re that,'” the Is It Cake? host said at the time.
“You always think like, ‘No, we’re cool, though. We’re not going to be annoying.’ We’re like ‘Yo what’s up, man?!’” Day joked, acting cool. “But I say the same things my parents did. Like, ‘After you eat can you put your dishes in the dishwasher? Please? It’s not that hard.’”
But we would argue that a parent who goes through all the pesky paperwork to get his kid on SNL is very cool.
These celebrity parents are sharing the struggle — and sweetness — of raising teenagers.
