(Austin Business Journal) — San Antonio-based H-E-B LP is seeking financial incentives to help it make a 21-acre former landfill site south of Austin suitable for a new grocery store.
The Buda City Council on Dec. 3 voted unanimously to rezone the property at 15000 N. I-35, where H-E-B aims to build a 135,000-square-foot store with a drive-thru True Texas BBQ restaurant, pharmacy and garden center. If the project moves forward, construction is expected to start in 2026.
But the plans haven't been finalized because of the history and potential cost of the project, officials said. H-E-B has requested the establishment of a planned development zoning to account for several issues with the site. The issues include nearly 30 tweaks to things like building setbacks, parking requirements, drainage and landscaping to help make the project financially feasible while adhering to environmental regulations and other requirements.
