PALENVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Palenville Branch Library will move locations in the new year. The library will move to The Woodbine Inn, 144 Malden Avenue, with a grand reopening scheduled for Monday, January 20.
The current location, 3303 Route 23a, will close on Saturday, Dec. 14. When the library is closed, residents can still use the Catskill Public Library or any Mid-Hudson Library locations for services or to return items.
According to the library, the move will offer a more accessible and larger space for learning, community connections and growth. In the new location, the library will still offer books, DVDs, CD's, and computer access but will have more space for community engagement.
The library often hosts events geared toward kids, including the Tiny Tots program, arts and crafts events, holiday programs, and movie nights. The last event in the current location will be pictures with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 7, for which registration is required.
The Woodbine Inn dates to the 1800s. According to its website, the Inn served as a speakeasy, honkey-tonk, flophouse, and jazz club before a full renovation in 2004. The library will encompass the inn's first floor for community residents and guests to use.
