White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will brief the press Friday afternoon as pressure grows on President Biden to issue more pardons before January.
Biden seemingly reversed course on Sunday and issued a controversial pardon for his son Hunter Biden. The move has rattled Washington and left lawmakers on both sides of the aisle questioning his reasoning. Some also are now seeking more pardons — including one for President-elect Trump.
The White House is also considering if Biden should preemptively protect those who have been critical of Trump ahead of an incoming administration focused on retribution, a source familiar told The Hill.
The briefing also comes amid global tension — including an impeachment threat on South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol — a U.S. ally — after he declared martial law, and the ongoing wars in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
The event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EST.
