SOME of the strongest people on the planet are currently battling it out in Bahrain at the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships – and its has been nothing short of thrilling!
Reigning Olympic champions Karlos Nasar, Olivia Reeves and Rizki Juniansyah are among the leading stars that will feature at this iconic competition.
Several world and Olympic champions will be taking part[/caption]Reeves in particular is looking to complete a fantastic season with a world title having picked up an Olympic gold earlier this year.
But she’ll have a lot of competition in Bahrain as SIX reigning world record holders from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea including Won Hyon Sim will be competing.
As for the men, Vietnamese icon Lia Gia Thanh goes into this tournament as a top seed having won in the 2023 55kg weight class.
Italy’s Oscar Reyes, last year’s 81kg winner and Mir Mostafa Javadi who reigned supreme in the 89kg category will also be taking centre stage.
But two of the most popular individuals in the sport, Lasha Talakhadze and Li Faban unfortunately miss out.
There has been no confirmed prize money for the World Weightlifting Championships 2024
But medals will be awarded in the following weight classes:
Women: 45kg, 49kg, 55kg, 59kg, 64kg, 71kg, 76kg, 81kg, 87kg, +87kg
Men: 55kg, 61kg, 67kg, 73kg, 81kg, 89kg, 96kg, 102kg, 109kg, +109kg
