Top Democratic donors, furious with President Joe Biden for pardoning his son, Hunter, are threatening to withhold funding for his future presidential library.
"If they had their s—t together, they would have been doing the work on this over the summer—right after he announced he was stepping aside," one top Democrat told Axios, referring to Biden's recent fundraising for a presidential library. "Now, it's just too late. Hopefully, they are rightsizing their expectations and budget!"
Biden’s sweeping pardon, which contradicted his earlier promise, added to growing frustration among powerful Democrats, who blame his failure to exit the race sooner for the party's landslide election loss, Axios reported.
A former Biden aide told the New York Post that Hunter’s pardon "will be a stain on his legacy."
"It’s a shame that President Biden put his family and personal life above the country," the former aide added.
Hunter was found guilty in June on three felony charges related to his purchase of a gun in 2018. He also pleaded guilty in September to a nine-count indictment, including three felony tax offenses and six misdemeanor tax offenses.
Biden’s White House is considering issuing more controversial "preemptive pardons" for public officials whom it believes "could be targeted" by the incoming Trump administration—including anti-Trump Republican Liz Cheney and former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci, Politico reported Wednesday.
