As far as noncontroversial Hollywood couples go, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski are sitting pretty. Their love is downright old-fashioned—the story of a boy introduced to a girl in a restaurant, and the rest is history. In fact, Krasinski spilled the details of the first time they met in his People 2024 Sexiest Man Alive cover story, saying he knew the second he met her that she was the one.
“I don't know what happened, but I remember someone introduced us, and it was across a room in a restaurant, and I walked over to her. And as soon as I shook her hand, I just knew," the actor and filmmaker said.
It's been a whirlwind romance for the couple who met in 2008. Now more than 15 years later, the duo is seemingly just as in love as ever. Below we break down the pair's relationship timeline and everything there is to know about Emily Blunt's husband, John Krasinski.
While we don't know Krasinski's individual net worth, according to Celebrity Net Worth, the actor, writer, and editor has an estimated combined net worth of $80 million with his wife. While this number isn't confirmed, the outlet reports that for the first three seasons of The Office, Krasinski made $20,000 per episode, and he began earning $100,000 in season four. He also earned a big chunk of change for his work directing, cowriting, as well as starring in A Quiet Place, which grossed $340.9 million worldwide.
Born on October 20, 1979, in the Boston suburbs, Krasinski knew he wanted to be in film in some capacity since he was a young boy. While he played sports and was in band like a lot of other kids his age, his wild ruminations ultimately led him to want to be an actor.
"I guess I was a pretty imaginative kid," he told People. "I was always living in some kind of world, whether it was pirates or some crazy adventure. Usually Indiana Jones, anything Steven Spielberg. I was friends with E.T. and picking up the [Raiders of the Lost Ark] idol and things like that basically from the ages of 4 to 45."
It's reported that Krasinski first got his taste of acting in a sixth-grade school production of the musical Annie, where he played Daddy Warbucks, Annie's adoptive father. It's also said that when he was a high school senior, he costarred in a satirical play written by his future The Office costar B.J. Novak, who also graduated from Newton South High School.
When asked about their theater days in an interview with Andy Cohen, Novak said they weren't both theater geeks.
"I was, he wasn't," he said. "He was a jock, a basketball captain, stuff like that. He found acting a little later."
After graduating from high school, Krasinski did a stint in Costa Rica where he taught English. He then went on to Brown University where he studied English and playwriting and was part of the sketch comedy group Out of Bounds until he graduated in 2001.
During his junior year of college, he interned for Late Night with Conan O'Brien as a scriptwriter. Following graduation, he moved to New York to pursue a career in acting.
While he starred in a few commercials and guest-starred on various shows, it wasn't until he was cast in the NBC sitcom The Office that he really became a household name. His character, Jim Halpert, quickly became a fan favorite. Jim was a sarcastic sales rep whose office romance with Pam (Jenna Fischer) won the hearts of everyone including her.
Though the show was a consistent part of his life from 2005 until its end in 2013, he was working on other projects simultaneously. Throughout his Office era, Krasinski also starred in Nobody Walks with Olivia Thirlby, Shrek the Third as Sir Lancelot, Leatherheads, Away We Go, and more.
Once his role as Jim ended, he took a sidestep from acting to produce and start the production company Sunday Night Productions with Allyson Seeger, which eventually led to the television show Lip Sync Battle.
After a little break from acting, Krasinski came back with guns blazing with A Quiet Place, which he directed, cowrote, and costarred in with his wife.
“It turned out to be incredible,” Krasinski told E! News of the “thrilling” experience. “Listen, having her trust and having her talent in that movie is the core reason why the movie is successful. So it was awesome.”

Blunt and Krasinski did indeed meet cute while with friends in L.A.
"I was in a restaurant, he was in the restaurant. I was sitting with a mutual friend," Blunt said in an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers in 2018. "And my friend Gray goes, 'Oh my God, that's my friend John.' And that was it. He was sitting with our friend Justin Theroux, and he abandoned Justin and came over to us. He just stood there and made me laugh."
Just two years after meeting, the couple wed in a 2010 ceremony at George Clooney's villa in Lake Como, Italy. The couple lived a fairly quiet life (at least for two major stars) before welcoming their first child, Hazel, in 2014.
"Wanted to let the news out directly," Krasinski tweeted at the time. "Emily and I are so incredibly happy to welcome our daughter Hazel into the world today! Happy bday!"
Two years after Hazel was born, the couple welcomed their second child, another daughter named Violet.
"What better way to celebrate the 4th... than to announce our 4th family member!!!" Krasinski shared on Twitter. "2 weeks ago we met our beautiful daughter Violet #Happy4th."

The couple has continued to keep their dreams even with a growing family. In addition to 2018's A Quiet Place, the two had a hand in A Quiet Place Part II (2020), with the third film on the way. While the movies have been a huge success, the two still put emphasis on keeping their family unit intact.
“You never want to work at the same time because it's not only important to be there for the kids, it's important for us because I think it keeps us completely and totally centered,” Krasinski told E! News. “Listen, it's a juggle when you're traveling around the world, but luckily we've got great kids and great friends and family who allow us to, when we travel, bring the whole circus with us.”
