Lionel Messi, Inter Miami a long-shot to win 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as groups revealed
Groups for the new 32-team FIFA Club World Cup were drawn Thursday, and with that we now have odds for which club might walk away from the one-month tournament with another title for the ol’ trophy case.
But before we get to the groups and odds, let me give a quick summary of the somewhat new tournament. The Club World Cup is basically a rebrand of the previously held FIFA Club World Championship, debuting under its new format in the United States in 2025. Like your regular World Cup, the Club World Cup will take place every four years, except it will include the best club teams from around the world instead of national teams.
The upcoming tournament will take place from June 15 to July 13, using 12 stadiums in 11 cities across the U.S. The teams representing the host country are the Seattle Sounders and Inter Miami — which was a little controversial because Miami got bounced in the first round of the MLS Playoffs. But hey, you gotta get Messi in this thing right?
Regardless, the tournament also includes powerhouses like Manchester City and Real Madrid, so the American clubs are a long-shot to win it. Here’s a quick glance at the groups and odds.
