Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) said President-elect Trump deserves a pardon in a Thursday appearance on “The View” shortly after President Biden pardoned his son Hunter Biden.
“I think that it’s undeniable that the case against Hunter Biden was really politically motivated but I also think it’s true that the trial in New York for Trump was political as well, too,” he told host Joy Behar.
“In both cases I think a pardon is appropriate and I really think collectively that America’s confidence in these types of institutions have been damaged by these kinds of cases, and we cannot allow these types of institutions to be weaponized against our political opponents,” he added.
Earlier this week, Behar’s co-host, Whoopi Goldberg, defended the president’s decision to pardon his son.
“This is his right as president,” Goldberg said on “The View.”
Trump was prosecuted in New York over a hush money scandal. Judge Juan Merchan dismissed the case after the former president’s legal team argued that his return to the White House clears him of the 34 felony counts.
Hunter Biden's pardon came as somewhat of a shock, as the president had previously said he would not issue a pardon to his son, who was found guilty of three charges relating to a 2018 gun purchase in June.
The president explained his decision in a statement earlier this week, saying, “No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son — and that is wrong."
