Man arrested after woman carjacked at gunpoint in SE OKC parking lot

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A man is in jail after allegedly carjacking a woman at gunpoint in southeast Oklahoma City.

It was a terrifying moment back on November 18 for Han Nguyen as he watched from his store window near Southwest 29th and Western.

A woman had just walked out of his convenience store when she was reportedly approached by 19-year-old Kendal Fairman holding a gun.

"I just happened to look over the window, and I saw the guy ran from the corner to the lady," said Nguyen.

Court documents say Fairman snatched the woman's keys from her fanny pack.

A person across the street could see what was happening and yelled at Fairman. That's when Fairman pointed the gun and started shooting at the witness, according to court records.

"I opened my door again and I heard a gunshot at that point, I know that something happened," said Nguyen. "I just went in and called 911 at that moment."

Fairman took the woman's fanny pack and drove away in her car before police arrived.

When officers got there, they found a cell phone lying on the ground that belonged to Fairman.

"I got scared a little bit at that point," said Nguyen.

The very next day, officers saw the woman's car and tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver took off, leading police on a chase.

Documents say during the chase, the car slowed down and police found a woman who said she had been "tossed out of the vehicle".

That woman told police Fairman was the one driving.

Police tried to find Fairman at his apartment but he wasn't home.

Fairman eventually turned himself in on Wednesday after he was charged and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Nguyen said he's relieved and ultimately glad no one was hurt.

"That woman, she just bought that vehicle and she needs that for transportation. I really, really hope that they can find her vehicle," said Nguyen.

Fairman is being held on a $500,000 bond.
