The Boston Red Sox remain in the Juan Soto sweepstakes in the days leading up to the most anticipated decision of the MLB offseason.
Boston wants to become a legitimate free-agent attraction again. Liam Hendriks bought into the culture when he chose the Red Sox to rehab from Tommy John surgery with and make his team debut in 2025. The Boston reliever sounded all-in on the idea of bringing another superstar to the Red Sox.
“I think he’d mesh really well in our clubhouse, but I always say you need to, he needs to, go wherever you’re gonna be the happiest, and that’s the big thing,” Hendriks told reporters at a community event Wednesday, per The Boston Globe’s Julian McWilliams. “He’s a 26-year-old guy with elite everything, and now he’s got an ability on the free agent market to cash in. He’s a generation-type player. You’re not going to find too many of those guys coming along.”
The narrative of Boston’s return to spending circulated all throughout the introduction to the offseason. Now, Hendriks is ready to see the Red Sox walk the walk.
“So if you’ve got the means and the capabilities, go for it,” Hendriks added.
The MLB Winter Meetings take place in Dallas from Dec. 9-12.
