Job Description:
The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for overseeing all purchasing activities within the aerospace manufacturing sector, ensuring that materials are acquired at the best possible prices while meeting production requirements and customer deadlines. The successful candidate will work closely with management, engineering, and suppliers to source materials, negotiate pricing, and manage inventory to support continuous production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with internal teams, including management, engineering, and production, to determine material requirements and source suppliers that align with quality, cost, and delivery standards.
- Evaluate and select vendors based on quality, pricing, and reliability. Obtain competitive quotes, process purchase orders, and coordinate delivery schedules to ensure timely availability of materials.
- Monitor material inventory levels, proactively initiating requisitions to maintain stock levels that support production schedules while minimizing excess inventory costs.
- Work with the ERP system (Global Shop) to track past material purchases, analyze trends, and make recommendations for optimizing future procurement.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, conducting site visits as necessary to assess capabilities and resolve issues.
- Contract Negotiation. Cost Optimization
- Address quality concerns by working closely with the Quality Department to ensure incoming materials meet specifications and resolve any discrepancies or rejections with vendors.
- Review purchase requisitions for completeness, ensuring that all necessary information (vendor, part number, job number, etc.) is provided and clarifying any discrepancies with the submitting team member.
- Collaborate with Accounts Payable to resolve discrepancies between invoices and purchase orders and ensure timely processing of payments.
- Work with Quality Assurance to verify certifications and compliance documentation for all materials.
- Continuously track and adjust delivery schedules to meet production needs, ensuring that production timelines are not disrupted.
- Assist with other purchasing-related duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience (3+ years) in a purchasing or procurement role within the aerospace manufacturing sector.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage vendor relationships effectively.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (Global Shop experience preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-centric focus.
- Ability to lift or move materials up to 40 pounds and perform tasks that require bending, stooping, and reaching.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of aerospace industry standards and regulations.
- Familiarity with quality certifications and compliance requirements for aerospace materials.
