Donald Trump added a former adviser who served four months in prison earlier this year to his White House team.
The president-elect announced that his former top trade adviser Peter Navarro, who was released from prison in July, would serve in his second administration as senior counselor for trade and manufacturing.
"I am pleased to announce that Peter Navarro, a man who was treated horribly by the Deep State, or whatever else you would like to call it, will serve as my Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing," Trump posted on Truth Social. "During my First Term, few were more effective or tenacious than Peter in enforcing my two sacred rules, Buy American, Hire American."

"He helped me renegotiate unfair Trade Deals like NAFTA and the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS), and moved every one of my Tariff and Trade actions FAST," he added
Navarro was found guilty in September 2023 of two counts of criminal contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the House select committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, and he reported in March to serve his sentence after a judge denied his appeal after finding no evidence that executive privilege was invoked on his testimony in that probe.
The 75-year-old Navarro spoke at the Republican National Convention hours after his release from prison.
