Juan Soto will change the course of a franchise this winter and it could be the Boston Red Sox.
While the team’s needs center around pitching, getting Soto first would give the talented Boston lineup even more firepower, a face of the franchise for the next decade and a legitimate chance to compete for a championship.
Here’s what the lineup could look like if the Red Sox complete a franchise-altering megadeal for Soto.
Jarren Duran, CF
Rafael Devers, 3B
Juan Soto, LF
Triston Casas, 1B
Trevor Story, SS
Wilyer Abreu, RF
Masataka Yoshida, DH
Connor Wong, C
Ceddanne Rafaela, 2B
Yes, that’s a lot of lefties to start the lineup. Deal with it.
The top trio is completely elite and Casas is dangerous. The Red Sox would present relentless challenges to opposing pitching staffs and still have solid production further down in Abreu and Yoshida with Story as the right-handed stop gap.
The Red Sox had a top-10 offense in each of the last seven seasons. They’ll mash once again with this group in 2025 and could spark a deep playoff run if proper pitching additions are made.
That’s a pretty good lineup as is. But what if the winter gets a little crazier? What if one of Boston’s top prospects is ready for Opening Day? What if they add another right-handed bat?
Then, the Opening Day lineup in 2025 could look something like this.
Jarren Duran, LF
Rafael Devers, 1B
Alex Bregman/Willy Adames, 3B
Juan Soto, RF
Trevor Story, SS
Tyler O’Neill, DH
Kristian Campbell, 2B
Connor Wong, C
Ceddanne Rafaela, CF
