For the first time ever, the city of Philadelphia is hosting a weekend-long extravaganza called Rocky Fest, all in honor of its most famous fictional resident—Rocky Balboa. Directed by John G. Avildsen and written by Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone the first 1976 Rocky movie was mostly almost exclusively in Philly. In one now-immortal scene, in which Rocky is training for his big fight with Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art are prominently featured. To this day, they're often called “the Rocky Steps.”
In Philly, the first RockyFest has begun with the unofficial holiday Rocky Day, which is always December 3, commemorating the original theatrical release date of the film in 1976. The first RockyFest will consist of tour buses of various locations for the films, in-person events, and of course, fan gatherings on the famous Rocky Steps.
But, if you’re not in Philly, and you still want to celebrate RockyFest, you certainly can. Here’s how to binge the entire Rocky franchise, starting with the first 1976 movie, all the way through the Creed spinoff movies.
