Apple Martin debuted at Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris over the weekend, no doubt making parents Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin very proud. Everything appeared to go off without a hitch, until the internet decided that Apple was being kind of bratty (original definition) based on a couple of viral videos taken at the ball. The first one shows the famous nepo baby looking exasperated with her date, Count Leo Henckel von Donnersmarck.
This looks like a classic exchange between two people in their 20s. He is doing a goofy dance at a serious event, she says something to him, he shuts up, and she rolls her eyes. It seems less like there’s drama here and more like she wanted him to keep things buttoned up before they made their big entrance. A little jig never hurt anybody, but a member of an Austro-Hungarian noble family does not need me to defend him.
The video that has people actually up in arms is one in which Apple rushes in while a photographer snaps photos of fellow debutante Aliénor Loppin de Montmort.
Apple is obviously hamming it up here, and the other debs are polite enough to laugh it off. However, Loppin de Montmort does not have a good poker face, and you can see that she’s not taking kindly to Apple’s antics. The commenters are on the side of the French countess and are waging war against Apple. “They could never make me like you Apple Martin,” the top comment reads. Several people accused her of having “mean girl vibes,” and a couple drew comparisons to Cinderella’s evil stepsisters.
Okay, so the consensus is that Apple Martin might think her life is Gossip Girl. Sure. What I’m seeing is that someone needs to call Andy Cohen and get a camera crew down to Vanderbilt University ASAP. If this is what Apple is like among other nepo babies, what kind of havoc is she wreaking in Tennessee? That’s what I want to watch.
