Exactly a year after they were first spotted out on a date, Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan are going their separate ways. A source implied to People that the decision was mutual and that it’s not even really a breakup.
“They are both young and career-focused, so they’ve decided to take a break,” the source told the tabloid. This is for sure a breakup, but you have to respect how polite this statement is. Perhaps in homage to Carpenter’s breakout album, it is short and sweet. These two don’t owe us a joint Instagram statement.
Carpenter and Keoghan were first linked a year ago, when they were photographed leaving a restaurant in Brentwood. They had reportedly met a few months prior at a Givenchy show during Paris Fashion Week. (Carpenter would later sing about their meeting on “Bed Chem.”) They spent the next year popping up together and looking cute. They both attended the Met Gala, he traveled to Singapore to watch her open for Taylor Swift, and he appeared in her music video for “Please Please Please.”
In August, DeuxMoi shared a tip saying that the couple had split, prompting a source to tell People that they were “on and off.” The couple were back on by the end of the month, and now? They’re off again. Personally, I will miss those funny little comments he would leave on her Instagram posts.
