Austin — On the heels of the biggest shopping holidays of the year, nonprofits come together for Giving Tuesday. Each organization hoping to cash in on spender's generous spirits and raise money for the various causes they support.
I Live Here I Give Here is Central Texas's official Giving Tuesday community leader, acting as a hub for donors to browse over 700 area nonprofits and donate online.
Piper Stege Nelson, executive director of I Live Here I Give Here, said her organization raised $250,745 during last year's Giving Tuesday campaign and has hosted fundraising efforts for the last 8 years.
I Live Here I Give Here also hosts the successful fundraising campaign Amplify Austin Day, raising $10,044,564 with its latest iteration earlier this year.
Stege Nelson said while both giving days are similar, Giving Tuesday takes place across the globe and Amplify Austin Day is a more localized effort.
She said whether donating on Giving Tuesday or another day of the year, nonprofits are in need of critical financial support.
"We are hearing more and more stories of nonprofits that are actually really having a hard time right now. Whether they have lost some funding due to political DEI issues, or whether they have just seen a downturn since the pandemic," Stege Nelson said.
