UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) – A person was killed and six firefighters were injured when flames and smoke filled a six-story building on Manhattan's Upper East Side on Monday, according to the FDNY.
It broke out at a building on East 82nd Street around 7:15 p.m., fire officials said. The fire started on the fifth floor and then spread to the floors above and below.
The person who was killed in the fire, not yet identified, was found in a hallway, according to the FDNY.
At least eight to 10 apartments were affected by the flames, fire officials said. The American Red Cross is helping 23 people and three cats who were displaced by the fire.
