OK, go ahead and prepare yourself for three things. First up, there’s the never-ending cuteness of Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s four kids. Next, there’s the incredible sale on the beloved vintage board game the Teigen-Legend kids were playing. And then … then there’s the fact that the game in question even qualifies as a vintage game …
Because your heart is about to be crushed and your mind is about to be blown when you learn that Hungry Hungry Hippos is officially vintage.
The beloved board game was ideated in 1967 by toy inventor Fred Kroll and officially introduced by Milton Bradley (a subsidiary of Hasbro) in 1978. Good trivia facts, huh?! This means the ravenous semi-aquatic mammals have been on shelves for nearly half a decade and in the minds of creators for well over that.
Yup. What you probably thought was a 90s staple (just me?) has been around for way longer and could be a collectors’ item on eBay before you know it.
Ages 4+
If you’re looking to add to your kiddos’ game room this holiday season (aren’t we all?!), now is the time to grab this ultra-nostalgic game that can keep up to four kids occupied for just 10 bucks.
In Teigen’s Instagram carousel, there’s a photo of her 1-year-olds Esti and Wren playing Hungry Hungry Hippos with a friend. Esti looks like such a big girl, showing the other kids how to play and towering over everyone else. She and her little brother also look as cute as can be in their autumnal outfits that were just perfect for the family photoshoot that Teigen then teased.
“had the coziest birthday I could ever dream of,” the cookbook author captioned her post. “A week full of babies and big kids and family and friends … plus got to take some family pics … Couldn’t have asked for a better week. Or a better life, really. 🤍🤍🤍”
“thank you to every family member and friend who made it out, every nanny that let me sleep,” she continued.
Earlier this month, Legend revealed the toy-related rule he and his wife have in place. The “All of Me” singer explained that their kids are required to give away toys whenever they get new ones. “We try to put that in practice with them, so that they understand how blessed they are, but also that they have the opportunity to help other people, and they should use that opportunity,” he told Parents.
And so now we’re wondering what toy was donated to make room for Hungry Hungry Hippos. Was it the Melissa & Dough Doctor Activity Center they got last spring? (Psst! It’s half off too!) Or some of Luna’s beyond-enviable craft supplies? Whatever it was, we’re happy the mini John Legends are getting a chance to play with this childhood classic before they pass it along to another deserving home.
