Who’s the Boss star Danny Pintauro revealed he was rushed into emergency surgery after a harrowing scooter crash on Thanksgiving night.
On Sunday night, Pintauro gave fans his version of the terrifying event from his hospital bed. He said he crashed his scooter when he found the road "suddenly blocked with cones." The 48-year-old reported that he “was forced to choose between [running into] a van and a pylon. The pylons hurt! Have a terrible scrape on my arm and I was pretty convinced I had broken my arm. The next morning it was a whole lot better so I didn’t worry as much."
But when he woke on Friday morning, Pintauro found that he “could barely breathe.” An X-ray, CT scans, and blood tests revealed that Pintauro was suffering from "an infection in my bloodstream due to a tear in my stomach lining—air and stomach acid were escaping into my abdomen." The actor called his ordeal "the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt in my whole life.”
On Saturday night, Pintauro “had to have emergency surgery last night to repair the tear” in his stomach lining. Though he called the situation “absolutely terrifying,” he’s now well on the road to recovery.
"The surgery went well and now that it’s fixed, the pain has pretty much gone away, although I’m still very sore," Pintauro reported on Sunday. "They just took the intubation tube out, but I have to leave another tube in my stomach for three days to keep removing the acids so as to not upset the stitches and repair they did. Which also means that I won’t be eating or drinking anything for the next three days."
Pintauro added that things could have turned out very differently had he ignored the signs his body was giving him. He also credited his husband, Will, for weathering the storm alongside him. "They always say this but it’s very true, if I had waited any longer, I could have died. My body was the one who told me something was absolutely wrong. My wonderful husband Will drove me here and has been by my side for the whole thing."
