DS Record Radar: This Week in Punk Vinyl (Less Than Jake, Rancid, Ignite, FORUS & More!)

Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is the weekly* column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. Kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!

Check out the video edition of this week’s Record Radar, presented by Punk Rock Radar:

Less Than Jake kicks off this week’s Record Radar with some yuge reissues, namely Pezcore and Losing Streak. The band has partnered with Rude Records to release “forever versions” (not entirely sure what that means!) of these classic records, each of which is limited to 1,000 copies. They’re also doing even more limited runs of CDs and cassettes, and a box set with all 3 formats and a slipmat, limited to 100 copies. Bad news: the box set is sold out. Pezcore is also sold out. Good news: Losing Streak is still in stock! Get it here before it, too, sells out.

Rancid reissued their B Sides and C Sides collection a few months ago, and now they’re back with another pressing, this time on some glow in the dark variants (the jacket glows in the dark, too, so that’s pretty cool). Good news: You can get the variant on top in the picture right here. Bad news: The sick-ass glow in the dark splatter variant (limited to 250 copies) is (was?) only available at 1-2-3-4 Go! Records in Oakland. Not their website, just in store.

The almighty IGNITE’s 2000 album A Place Called Home is getting its first reissue ever just in time for its 25th anniversary. Due out March 21st, 2025 on Svart Records, the record will be available on two bad ass color variants (and black vinyl) and will feature three bonus tracks previously only available on the European CD version of the album. Pre-order here (US), here (Finland), or here (Germany).

MORE REISSUES! It’s what the people want! And it’s what you’re gonna get because Georgian (the state, not the country) pop-punks Veara are celebrating the 15th birthday of their 2010 album What We Left Behind by releasing it on vinyl for the very first time. This is limited to 500 copies spread across four color variants (a few of which are much more limited than the others), and I gotta call out some shamelessness here: they’re charging 80 fuckin dollars for the two most limited variants. The Newbury Comics virus of scalping your own records is spreading. Anyway, it is what it is – don’t hate the player, hate the game, etc. Buy the record here.

French melodic punk powerhouse FORUS is back from the dead and ramping up to release their first new music in a decade with their new label Thousand Islands Records. But to tide you over they’re reissuing their 2014 LP LIGHTS. The record was sent to the Blasting Room to be remastered and also features four (instrumental) bonus tracks and updated cover art. You can get it on two stunning color variants here (US / Canada) and here (EU).

Thee Street Dogs keep the reissue action going with this 20th Anniversary edition of Back to the World, which is also being released on vinyl for the very first time. This reissue features a previously unreleased bonus track called “Drop the Oppression” and is available on three color variants from SBÄM Records; get it here.

How about some new records with new music? We like those, too! Austrian punks The Mugwumps are back with a brand new record called Domino, due out December 6th on Monster Zero. This was available on a super limited pink color variant but that sold out. However! It’s still available on black wax which you should most definitely purchase. You can do that right here.

In other Monster Zero news: they also just released a new 12″ EP from Teenage Bubblegums! Infamia features 5 brand new tracks from the Italian punk band and you can get it on orange colored vinyl right here.

Los Angeles’ The Two Tens have a brand new 7″ out now on Rad Girlfriend Records. TMac was recorded, produced, and mixed by the legendary Ed Stasium (Ramones, Talking Heads, Slick Shoes (certainly the most noteworthy), etc.) and mastered by the equally legendary Mass Giorgini. Go here and get it on blue w/ orange splatter colored vinyl, random mixed color vinyl, or black vinyl! Vinyl vinyl vinyl vinyl

Screeching Weasel released a few festive arrangements digitally in 2017, and 7 years later they’re releasing them on a physical format. Head over to the Recess Records store to get the Christmas Eve / New Year’s Eve 7″ on red and/or green colored vinyl. Limited to 250 copies each. More importantly! You may notice a lil teaser at the bottom of the product page: “ps. for those curious about the deluxe reissue of Screeching Weasel – My Brain Hurts double LP: It’s right around the corner! stay alert!” MASSIVE!!!

Phillipsburg, New Jersey’s Houston & The Dirty Rats have released a new live record called Live From The PBURG Legion. It was recorded at their hometown 10th anniversary show; grab a copy on “cloudy pinkish-purple” colored vinyl from Spin Me Round Records.

Staying on the topic of live records recorded in the band’s home town, 30footFALL throws their hat in the ring with Live At Fitzgerald’s. This was recorded at the band’s 2018 Christmas show; one of the final shows Houston’s Fitzgerald’s hosted shortly before being demolished. Our friends at People of Punk Rock have three color variants to choose from, or if you can’t make up your mind you can get a bundle with all three!

Also new from 30footFALL and People of Punk Rock Records, the band’s 2010 Jesus, Evils, and Richard Petty EP is being released on vinyl for the first time with three color variants limited to 100 copies each. Get it here!

Remember that 80’s Ramones box set from Record Store Day a few years ago? If you passed on it, I have good news for you! Firstly, you can get a pretty damn good deal on it right now from get_importCDs on ebay (27% off when you buy two or more records and use code GETMUSICLOVE24 at checkout, ends December 1st aka TODAY!!). But secondly – and the reason I bring this up – pretty much all the records that were in that box set have just been repressed and are available à la carte. That includes Pleasant Dreams, Brain Drain, Too Tough To Die (available on black wax and this bad ass Vinyl Me Please exclusive cloudy blue variant), Halfway to Sanity, Animal Boy, and a sick nasty new silver variant for Subterranean Jungle. The box set is 100% cheaper than buying these individually btw, and you get a bonus LP of b-sides and shit – and a cool box to put all the records in!

The friendly people at Wiretap Records are celebrating their label’s 10th birthday with a compilation LP featuring songs from but not limited to: Mercy Music! Spanish Love Songs! Audio Karate! No Motive! And some other cool bands. Very nice! This is limited to 100 copies on black vinyl. Buy it with your money here!

One of the coolest records of 2023, Dutch punks Harsh Realms’ comeback album CVLT has made its way to a new format, receiving a cassette release from Cat’s Claw Records. This version of the album includes a brand new bonus track called “Saving Private Fun”. Get it here!

And for the first time in Record Radar history, I’m featuring to cassette releases – back to back! We’re breaking new ground here, people. Also from our friends at Cat’s Claw Records: it’s the new album from Edinburgh, Scotland’s Bike Notes, whose lineup boasts members of The Murderburgers, Wrong Life, and the Walking Targets! This is due out January 8th, 2025, with Cat’s Claw handling the cassette release and Limited Fun (UK), Bloated Kat (US), and Waterslide Records (JP) releasing the album on CD.

Sounds Rad Records’ latest Mr. T Experience reissue is for the band’s 2000 The Miracle of Shame EP, and it’s now available to buy on green colored vinyl (limited to 300 copies). The EP was remastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering (who’s become a household name, working with Screeching Weasel, the Smoking Popes, Mean Jeans, The Manges, etc. etc. etc.) and features refreshed artwork by Lookout! Records’ Chris Appelgren.

New York Hardcore veterans Judge are reissuing their debut-ish LP Chung King Can Suck It for the first time since its original release in 1989. Prior to this, only 100 copies of this record existed, so it makes sense these new color variants (of which there are 5) are selling out fast. Fear not, because you read the Record Radar, and I’m always here to help! Here’s a list of variants and places that still have them in stock:

x250 Coke Bottle Clear With Black Marble (RevHQ Exclusive) – Sold out, sorry friends

x1,000 Translucent Light Blue – Still in stock here!

x700 Bone And Purple Marble (Retail Store Exclusive) – Still in stock here!

x300 Pineapple (Coretex Records and Generation Records exclusive) – 100% sold out – no dice on this one

x1,000 Black And White Split – Still in stock here, there and everywhere

And what better way to wrap up this week’s Record Radar than with a release from Dying Scene’s grandfather Jaystone’s all time favorite band Lucero? Singer Ben Nichols and keyboardist Rick Steff spent a day at Southern
Grooves studio in Memphis, Tennessee recording acoustic versions of 20(!) Lucero songs. The tracklist only lists 19 songs though for some reason? Anywho, they’re releasing it as a double LP which you can purchase with the fungible currency of your desire riiiiight here.

Aaaaaaaaaaand that’s all, folks. Another Record Radar in the books. As always, thank you for tuning in. If there’s anything I missed (highly likely), or if you want to let everyone know about a new/upcoming vinyl release you’re excited about, leave a comment below, or send me a message on Facebook or Instagram, and I’ll look into it. Enjoy your weekend, and don’t blow too much money on spinny discs (or do, I’m not your father). See ya next time!
