Alasdair Gold has a promising update on Micky van de Ven but the journalist pointed out that Tottenham are not rushing the centre-back’s rehabilitation.
Van de Ven has been out of action since picking up a hamstring injury in Tottenham‘s Carabao Cup win over Manchester City at the end of October.
He has been joined on the treatment table by his fellow centre-back, Cristian Romero, but Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies have given a decent account of themselves in the pair’s absence.
However, there is no doubt that Ange Postecoglou will be desperate to have the Dutchman back as soon as possible, with his pace allowing Tottenham to press the opposition higher up the pitch.
Following Tottenham‘s draw against Fulham on Sunday, Postecoglou provided some bad news on the former Wolfsburg man, stating that he is yet to join the team for training.
However, Gold now reveals that the centre-back has been doing some work outdoors and in the Hotspur Way gym over recent days as he steps up his recovery.
The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “Micky van de Ven is on the road back. He’s doing some work outdoors. I saw him in the gym when I was watching open training on Wednesday at Hotspur Way.
“Mikey Moore was in there and Van de Ven was in there doing some work as well. They’re going to be really cautious with both of them.”
Given Van de Ven’s importance to the Spurs side and his history with hamstring problems, one can understand why the club want to take things slow with him and ensure he has all the time he needs to return to 100 per cent.
Besides, Ben Davies has really stepped up and has hardly put a foot wrong over recent weeks. The Welshman has shown that he is more than capable of holding the fort until the Netherlands international is ready to return.
