The Athletic’s latest update on Real Madrid’s pursuit of one Tottenham man will make some Spurs fans rest a little easier.
Pedro Porro’s stock continues to rise at Tottenham and it has been widely reported by various outlets over the last few months that he is on Real Madrid’s radar.
The La Liga giants are thought to be eyeing the Spurs man as a potential heir to the ageing Dani Carvajal.
However, it turns out that Pedro Porro is not at the top of Real Madrid’s wishlist at the moment.
The Athletic have now revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold remains the number one priority for Los Blancos as they aim to add a right-back to their squad next summer.
The Liverpool man’s current deal at Anfield runs out at the end of this season and he will thus be able to agree a pre-contract with non-English clubs in January.
It is revealed that there is pessimism at Liverpool over their chances of tying Alexander-Arnold down to a new deal while there is growing optimism at Madrid that they will be able to get the England international.
The publication adds that in the event that Madrid are not able to sign the Reds star, they will turn their attention to Porro or Bayern Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.
Porro has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal at Tottenham, which is why the North London club are in a strong negotiating position.
Madrid will be aware that Daniel Levy will demand a huge fee if they come knocking on the door.
However, the worry for Spurs would be that the 25-year-old could push for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, having already flirted with the idea of moving to the Spanish giants.
