Some sources believe that there is a strange contract clause that might impact Archie Gray and his immediate Tottenham future.
While Gray is still waiting for his first Premier League start and has not had any opportunities to play in midfield so far, the 18-year-old has impressed everyone with his versatility, having been deployed across the back four by Ange Postecoglou.
The £40m that Tottenham spent on the teenager looks like money well spent, with many expecting the youngster to develop into a star over the coming years.
However, it has now been reported that there is a clause in the deal that could potentially allow the midfielder to depart for the same fee.
The Athletic have revealed that multiple people who are familiar with the details of the deal have said that there is a clause that would allow Gray to leave for £40m if he does not get enough game time.
It is explained that if the youngster does not play a minimum number of minutes this season, such a release clause will become active.
The report does not say how many games Gray would have to play to negate that clause, but it is revealed that Spurs have denied the existence of any such clause.
The Leeds academy graduate would have not expected to play week-in, week-out in his first season at Tottenham.
In fact, he would be quite happy with the amount of minutes he has got so far, with the youngster having started every one of the club’s Europa League games this season.
With Rodrigo Bentancur now serving his seven-match suspension, the teenager might not get a chance to show what he can do in the middle of the park,
