New Delhi: After the IPL 2025 mega auction ended, there is a lot of speculation about the new captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). RCB had released Faf du Plessis before the auction, who led the franchise from IPL 2022 to 2024. After Du Plessis’s departure, there is a strong possibility of India’s star batsman Virat Kohli becoming the captain of RCB again. Kohli has captained RCB from 2013 to 2021. He has been a part of RCB since the inception of IPL in 2008. Former India cricketer and famous commentator Aakash Chopra believes that now it is confirmed that Kohli will become the captain of RCB. He has given a strong reason for this.
‘Virat Kohli will be the captain again’:
Akash said on his YouTube channel, “Now it is confirmed that Kohli will be the captain. RCB did not take Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul, who were candidates for captaincy. Former captain Faf du Plessis was also not taken. When no one was taken, then perhaps RCB had made up its mind that we are going back to Kohli. Kohli will become the captain of this team again. But what kind of a team has been made? RCB thought that the one who we have, we will not be back in the auction. Almost came with the oath that we will not take anyone other than those who were retained. The Right-to-Match (RTM) card was not used even for Will Jacks.”
This is the story of RCB for 10 years:
The former cricketer further said, “There is another thing to note in RCB, which is the story of the last 8-10 years. Virat Kohli is a high-profile Indian batsman in the team. After that RCB does not keep any Indian batsman of that profile. Many times they are not able to keep him. How will you keep him when he is not available. Where do you find players like Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the auction? How to buy someone who does not come in the auction? However, this time there was a chance in the auction but did not take it. RCB tries to build around Kohli and also does not want an Indian batsman of that profile in the team. The franchise maintained that philosophy this time as well.
