Once expected to become one of the best players for the country, Prithvi Shaw’s career has taken a major hit especially in the last 2-3 years. For the first time in 8 years, the Indian batter finds himself without an IPL franchise. Disciplinary issues and a lack of fitness have been cited as some of the reasons as to why Shaw’s career has gone through a downward spiral.
Amid all this, Shaw’s childhood coach Santosh Pingutkar believes that the batter still has age on his side and can bounce back with hard work but also expressed disappointment over the player’s downfall and said that Shaw’s career has taken a downward trend due to his involvement in groups outside of cricket.
“He is just 25 years old. He still has age in his hand. He can bounce back with hard work if he wants to sustain in competitive cricket,” Pingutkar told ETV Bharat.
“Other activities, everything but his game witnessed a rise. He was more involved in his groups outside cricket. But, no doubt he loves cricket. However, he wasn’t able to convert his love for the game into his efforts. That’s why he is witnessing such a lean phase. He should bounce back as soon as possible. Everyone’s blessings are with him,” Pingutkar added.
Shaw failed to attract any franchise in bidding for him at the IPL auction despite his base price being that of INR 75 lakhs, which is on the lower side in comparison to the players of his generation.
