It was sweet music to the ears of the Barbados Police Service Band that they will be travelling in style.
The unit was the recent recipient of a brand new bus, and Andre Alleyne, director of sales at VOLT E.V., said the company was contracted to import the bus.
“The bus is fully electric to go hand-in-hand with the Government’s mandate of going electric by 2025. It has all the amenities to make the band comfortable when they travel – AC, reclining seats, fully illuminated, under carriage storage – the full works.
“We also have some more vehicles coming that will help to modernise the fleet for the police service and to be at the cutting edge of technology at this stage,” he said.
Senior Superintendent of Police and Director of Music, Andrew Lynch, said he was excited for the new transportation.
“This was a long time coming. The current bus we had from 2002 so we are excited. This has all the amenities that we would need in terms of comfort and storage for the instruments. We are very thankful,” he nsaid.
He said the bus, which seats 48 “and is adequate for our needs”, will complement the luggage truck they already use.
“The band will be into our busy season after Independence, which is Christmas, so you will see our bus to and fro on the roads. Our schedule is packed so you will see the bus on the road multiple days.”
Also present at the handing over ceremony were members of the police service, members of the band and Assistant Director of Music Anderson Whitehall. (NS)
